Live update question...

Hey i was wondering if there is any way to disable the auto sign in on the xbox live msn messenger?  I hate it when i try to go on live to play gears or halo beta, then all of a sudden 5 different msgs will appear outta nowhere from different people and it will juss take me out of the gaming mood. Sure i could juss sign out when it signs me in but it is such a hassel there has to be a way to disable auto sign in.  Thx
