Noob question - What do Achievements do ...

I just had the 360 for like a week, so I have no idea what these achievement things do for you, other than look pretty that is.Noob question - What do Achievements do ...
Thats just about it....lol but people dont really care anymore about your gamer score unless its insanely high. Oh and there are events that are based on gaining points in a certain period for prizes and stuff but its only in the US right now.Noob question - What do Achievements do ...
So you can't trade them for any downloadable stuff or anything?

A reminder of hours spent on games.
Its for those like myself who can't even stand playing any other console, because there are no achievements, and I feel like my time spent playing is not worth anything.  There's no pot of gold on the other side of a game on any other console. However, with Achievements, I feel like I'm playing with a purpose, with a goal in mind.  Achievements are really the best thing since sliced bread.
They are for bragging rights and recognition for reaching certain milestones.

They add an interger to another interger.....and thats it.
yeah they pretty much do nothing but theres no feeling close to the achievement icon popping up and hearing the bloop sound lol
