Now I know you can't judge the popularity of a game from a stat keeping site that only tracks REGISTERED MEMBERS, but this was the closest I could get to the inevitable truth. As the Halo 3 beta has been fueling all you Halo junkies with a sneak peak of its multiplayer, games have noticely lost some players this week. Yet there is one game that truly (but not really surprising) amazed me when it litteraly lost more than half of its weekly players. Gears of War!! Usually in the #1 spot (since its launch mind you) with an average of around 9,000+ players playing the game it has decreased to an oh so low (compared to its previous days) 4,303 players (since yesterday). So is this a brief display of the eventful downfall of a once smash hit (personally I find it boring but can't deny the truth) or am I speculating to soon?Hehe I almost forgot the link to the graph: http://www.360voice.com/game.asp?game=Gears+of+War%26type=1
Thanx for the replies and I appreciate everyones opinions on the matter (even flamers as long as they back it up)Future of Gears is briefly shown here!
R U CEREAL? I love Gears, and I'll be sad if it turns into a barren wasteland. How's Vegas and Command and Conquer doing, those are the only other games I play online.Future of Gears is briefly shown here!
lol RSV (which is the 2nd most played shooter for XBL) went from around 4000-5000 players to just a lil more that 1,100 players. Lets hope these Halo 3 players don't put in their Halo 2 discs in order to prepare for Halo 3 when it releases lol.
*Gaping mouth* Goddamnit, Halo is good, but it shouldn't be that good, not enough to make a game go down like 3,000 players.
people are getting the most out of H3 now solely because its a times beta. no use in buying Crackdown (unless you really like the game) or working to get into the Rule of Three contest if you were going to play the hell out of the beta.when H3 actually is released, people will still be playing games like GeoW and R6V for many more months.

Once people have played the beta enough and/or the beta is expired people will go back to old games.Gears of War will never stay at the top. As you can clearly see, its constantly losing more and more players by the day. This just means that its been out for so long people are geting bored of it. Once Halo 3 comes out, the same thing will happen except on a much bigger scale. I bet you wont even be able to play any other games for about a month because the masses will be on Halo 3. Then, when GoW 2 commes out, the same will happen.
well lot of ppl are playin halo beta 2 play as much as they can but once they get tired of it most of them go rite back 2 gears well at least everyone on my buddy list anyways...but its not gonna effect the future of gears its just how it goes wen a game like halo comes out all the fans of the series r gonna automatically play that game me personally im now a big fan of gears so no matter what comes out gears is like my number one game but i do play the beta as well just not too much cuz it seems 2 get pretty boerin after awhile

u might b right, except h2 still has an active online community
GOW For Life!!!!
Well, to be completely honest, I actually never really did like Gears. I bought it to check it out, to see what the rave was about, and I really wasn't very impressed. I found myself going back to Call of Duty 3, Rainbow Six: Vegas and Halo 2. But, until June 10, I'll be playing Halo 3 beta. Sometimes playing RSV. I never did like Gears to begin with. I just found it .. um .. I don't know. Just didn't like it. Anyone else? I found it HIGHLY overrated, sure, it's fun for a bit, but it just gets old.
Its just a fact that everyone was waiting for Halo 3 beta to come out, Ther were around 70k Halo 3 players on yesterday!

Oh and I really can stand Gears of War I have it enjoyed it the first 3 weeks and then it got really boring. There is no point to the online it is so repetative. They finally put in a new game mode and makes it to 4 which is nothing to games like Halo, RB6V, GRAW2. Those games can last me for a very long time.

When you check the leaderboards on GeOW its like over 200,000 players monthly and weekly I think it was really high to. I know that all time players in Warzone is over 1,300,000.Why is there only 9,0 people playing it weekly?
since its only registere users, it doesn't really a good portion of players, but it was announced on majornelson yesterday that gears was still the top played game on live.
Of course these games are all going to lose online players when we're talking about HALO 3. This is the game that (practically) single handedly sold the Xbox, and was a major selling point in the minds of a lot of 360 owners. This is the most hyped multiplayer game of 2007, so of course every other game will suffer online numbers because of it.Besides, you can't expect a game to last forever (although Halo 2 seems to be doing just that....). Major hits always die away eventually... it just seems Gears might be running out of steam a little bit early.
i thought the game got boring too
i thought the game got boring too
yo i just checked the weekly warzone leaderboard and over 129,000 people have played gears this week.
I stopped playing Gears when I bought Rainbow Six, although I havn't played either of them for a while, Gears was never in my Xbox for long. Halo 2, on the other hand, I had played for months without playing anything else. (I expect the same for Halo 3)
