Halo 3 Beta help please

I'm downloading the Halo 3 beta from Crackdown, but I can't do anything else while it is downloading.  I can't select the continue option and when I press the guide button the dowload stops.  Is this normal?  When i've downloaded demos before this usually works.  Also, the background downloads function doesn't work for the beta.Anyone else had this problem?Halo 3 Beta help please
